Standing in the midst of abandoned and orphaned youth will shake your heart and soul

Karuma is where it happened, where the questions began. The kind of questions with no easy answers, the ones that make you wrestle with what it means to love others beyond yourself. Questions that, if left unanswered, can mean the difference between hope and despair in a young person’s life.

We saw what others called marginalized youth and recognized something different: children who are gifted, created with purpose, and filled with potential. Each one is a reflection of God’s design, a reminder that every life has meaning and value.

Their strength challenges us. Their stories call us to accountability, not only for ourselves but for the generations that follow. As adults, we have walked through hardship and learned from it, but our children need what many of us lacked: guidance, support, truth, protection, and a firm foundation to cross the threshold from youth to adulthood.

So we ask, Who was there for you? If your answer is “no one,” that is exactly why Their Future was laid on our hearts.

We believe God has created all things in accordance with His purpose. That is why we walk forward into Their Future with faith, courage, and love.

When you meet them, when you see them, something within you stirs. Your heart reaches out before your mind can catch up, searching for a way to be part of their lives because of who they are, what they aspire to be, and because they are amazing people.

— Dr. Darnell Worley, President

What started as a visit to Uganda became a family bond that grew stronger each year. Out of that connection came a calling to serve the abandoned and orphaned youth of Uganda. Their Future is built on hope, prayer, and the belief that every life has purpose, and every young person deserves the chance to walk fully into theirs by God's grace.

—Mrs. Diane Strader, Vice President

During our two visits to Uganda, spending time with the children and staff, we felt the Lord calling us to get involved at a deeper level. Their strength and stories challenged us, reminding us of our responsibility not only to them but to the generations that follow. We knew that helping provide a way for the children to pursue higher education would radically change Their Future.

Meet Ibrahim “Ibra” Loum

Our Partner and Leader in Uganda

Faithful, compassionate, and full of joy, Ibrahim “Ibra” Loum brings heart and purpose to Their Future every day. When he’s not serving the youth at Restoration Gateway, you can find him watching or playing football or listening to gospel music, which keeps his spirit grounded and full of praise.

Before joining Their Future, Ibra worked with Watoto, a ministry dedicated to caring for orphaned and vulnerable children. His passion for this work runs deep. As he often says, “I want to work for organizations that help orphan children like me.”

Ibra’s strength was shaped by loss and perseverance. Raised in Gulu, he lost his mother when he was just four years old and his father to HIV in 1994. After his grandmother’s passing while he was still in secondary school, Ibra leaned on distant relatives and an uncle who helped him complete his A-Level and University education. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting and Finance from Kampala.

Today, Ibra lives in Gulu with his wife of four years, Lakaraber Sandra. His life is a testimony of faith, resilience, and God’s grace — qualities that shine through in every young life he touches.

None of the important work of Their Future would be possible without Ibra’s dedication and leadership. He embodies the heart of our mission: to give hope, education, and opportunity to every child created in God’s image.

—Mr. Ibra Loum, Guidance Counselor
